Will coronavirus pandemic change the face on education sector the coronavirus scare. Students have lost more than one month of academic time. At the same time, institutes are ensuring that teaching is not disrupted further. We have given a small studio setup to all the teachers to work from home. We have also resorted to the online admission and placement process and conducting the interviews over Skype. While this may cause mild inconvenience, in the larger scheme of things it will not affect very badly.

Impact on placements
The current academic session is bound to get delayed and nobody really knows for how long. We started online classes on March 16. However, there are still some challenges in terms of courses and projects involving physical laboratories and fieldwork. Our students from remote areas with poor connectivity are also facing difficulties. The real worry, on the other hand, is the impending global economic crisis and its long-term impact on placement. As most companies are expected to defer the offers they have already made this year.

Institutes must be prepared
The indefinite postponement of college admissions has made many students and their families anxious. However, the National Association for College Admission Counseling has encouraged colleges to be flexible with deadlines. We have started e-learning and already sent out online study materials to the students. Webinars are also being conducted to engage the students besides conducting video sessions. Institutions must gear up to ensure such impacts are minimized and stay prepared with their admission plan.

Push the admissions cycle
Placements for the current academic year are mostly over but there may be a delay in the rest of the students getting suitable opportunities. The larger issue is the impact of COVID-19 on the economy and its further effect on employment opportunities. There might also be a delay in on-boarding the students who have been recruited. The crisis has already led to a delay in the conduct of examinations and the announcement of results. This may further push the admissions cycle accordingly.
